Abby L. Hans

Abby Hans, a currency exchange owner since 1972, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois, Inc. in 1985. He served as its’ president from 1995 through 1998. While serving on that board, he reinvigorated the philanthropic efforts of the Association.

Under his guidance, the C.C.E.A. initiated many community and charitable projects ranging from helping fund the Bethel New Life Foundation home ownership project in Chicago’s Garfield Park community and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, to the Chicagoland Boys and Girls Clubs and the Cancer Wellness Center of Illinois.

In 1991 Abby spearheaded the Association’s major effort in partnership with the City of Chicago’s Fire Department. The C.C.E.A. donated a state of the art Mobile Fire Safety House, which allowed kindergarten through 2nd graders to learn the basics of fire safety with the able guidance of fire department personnel. The Mobile Fire Safety House stands as one of his proudest community contributions to date.

Abby has served as a three-term Chairman of the Board of FiSCA, the Financial Service Centers of America, formerly the National Check Cashers Association. This national trade association represents 5000 licensed check cashing locations throughout the United States.

As Back 2 School Illinois’s first President, Abby looks forward to helping the currency exchange industry continue its commitment to community outreach.

In 1970, Mr. Hans married his wife Sharyl. They have three sons and six grandchildren.
