Mitchel Young

Mitchel Young has been a Music / Performing Arts Teacher on the North Side of Chicago for 20 years. He originated his Schools Performing Arts Program which has become an integral part of both the School curriculum and surrounding communities. Mitchel fosters a safe space for his students, nurturing creative expression through music and movement.

Mitchel is a dedicated community volunteer for Lincoln Park Community Shelter, Gay for Good, The Special Olympics, Care for Friends Sleepout for Homelessness, Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association, T.P.A.N. Ride for Life, Friends of Andersonville Summer Reading Enrichment Program and Back 2 School Illinois.

Two of Mitchel’s most prestigious awards are: Nomination for the 2014 GRAMMY Music Educator Award and the 2002 Heart of the School Award.

Mitchel is honored to be chosen as Education Director for Back 2 School Illinois and looks forward to continuing to build a stronger relationship between educators and B2SI; providing the necessary items needed to help students succeed.
